Soil Mixes That Truly Understand Your Plants Not all soil mixes are...
€0,00 EUR
Whether you’re refreshing a tired potting mix or starting a seedling propagation project, perlite improves soil aeration and boosts drainage, helping your plants thrive from the ground up. At Sybotanica, we source premium-grade horticultural perlite that’s been carefully sifted to eliminate harmful dust—so it's safer for both you and your plants.
This porous material is essential for anyone working with standard garden soil that tends to compact or hold too much moisture. When added to your potting mix, perlite prevents waterlogging by creating air pockets throughout the substrate.
The result? Enhanced root development, better nutrient uptake, and a more breathable growing environment. It’s especially effective for indoor houseplants, succulents, and tropical species that demand a fast-draining soil blend.
Unlike common dusty perlite, our sifted version eliminates fine powder that could irritate your lungs or clutter your workspace. This clean, sterile growing medium is ideal for mixing indoors or in smaller areas where safety and cleanliness matter.
Use it to lighten up any substrate or as a standalone medium in a seed starting mix. It also excels during propagation—simply fill a container with water and perlite, submerge your plant cutting, and let new roots form in a breathable, stable base.
Though often confused, perlite and vermiculite serve different functions. Perlite retains less water and creates a looser, airier soil blend. This makes it ideal for most common houseplants, from monstera to pothos to spider plants. In contrast, moisture-retaining vermiculite is better for moisture-loving species like alocasia, calathea, and maranta.
If your goal is to boost drainage and airflow, perlite is the clear winner.
This product integrates seamlessly into Sybotanica’s carefully formulated SYBASoil blends. Designed to support the natural needs of 16 plant families, SYBASoil is built around the principle that happy plants start with the right foundation.
Whether you’re amending heavy soils or crafting your own potting mix ingredient, perlite provides long-term performance and reliable structure. It never breaks down like bark or coco coir, so your soil stays light and breathable over time.

Is the perlite cleaned?
The perlite is cleaned before selling through sifting. Cleaning removes the smallest and most harmful particles.
Though perlite is non-toxic, inhaling the small particles and dust can be harmful to your respiratory tract, so ensure to wear a mask when handling it.
Why does the perlite come slightly moist?
We sell our perlite lightly moistened to reduce its dust. Do note that due to transport, small dust can be created from the pressure and caution should still be taken!
What is perlite made from?
Perlite comes from volcanic glass with high moisture. It was re-heated to 1200 degrees Celsius to expand it 20 times. The high water content in perlite creates steam inside the rock.
This causes it to 'puff up' and expand, much like popcorn!

Why Perlite for your plants?
Lightweight aeration & drainage improver.
Add 15-40% to your SYBASoil mix
Most houseplants benefit from Perlite
Cleaned and sifted, slightly moist. The dust with unsifted perlite is bad for your health and can get stuck in your lungs.
Our Perlite is mined in Greece, it's then transported in its unpopped form (perlite expands by its volume up to 20 times with heat).
Here in the Netherlands, the perlite is heated with gas to become its final airy and lightweight form.
While the use of gas is not ideal, Perlite lasts very long (years & years!) unless high pressure is applied.
Because of its durability, we believe perlite offers a good solution. Besides, it offers unmatched quality in keeping plants happy!
Our perlite is RHP-certified from the mines right to the production facility. This ensures quality and sustainable production.
